Nellie Powell, founder of Charleston Shoe Company, spent his childhood in the colonial towns of central Mexico. In the summer of 1996, at Charleston College, she met a shoemaker whose simple sandals were a must-have item for the locals and visitors. Neely knows that the magical women who participated in these trade shows are very style-oriented, but all day on the feet, she also has a suitcase full of shoes to keep them comfortable. The more shoes she showed, the more she knew about what she had, and before she knew it, she formed a wholesale business. In 2009, when her own brand dream began to appear, she participated in the accessories design project of the Savannah College of Art and Design. Neely drew on her shoes and accessories design course and partnered with the fourth generation of shoemakers in Mexico to launch her own line of hand-stitched footwear.
