Thrice is an American musical gang from Irvine, California, framed in 1998. While they were still in high school, lead guitarist Teppei Teranishi and guitarist/vocalist Dustin Kensrue formed the group. Thrice early work was characterized by melodic hardcore punk music with prominent lead guitar lines, frequent changes in intricate time signatures, and heavily distorted guitars. Their second and third albums, respectively, The Artist in the Ambulance (2003) and The Illusion of Safety (2002), demonstrate this style. By incorporating electronic beats, keyboards, and a sound that was more experimental on their fourth album, Vheissu (2005), they made significant changes. They released The Alchemy Index, a four-part, 24-song cycle made up of two studio albums, in 2007 and 2008. Based on distinct aspects of the band's musical aesthetic, each of the Alchemy Index's four six-song EPs features significantly distinct styles.
