Seven Stories recognizes the need for an institution in the UK whose mission is to collect, maintain and celebrate its children's literature. They believe that it should be established in a place that can have a real impact on children and families nearby, because they know that early books and story experiences are essential for children's development and aspirations. In the 1990s, manuscripts and illustrations of some influential British writers were sold to overseas collectors and institutions. Nowhere in the UK can it be seen as a protector of their children's literary heritage.
