Working at a national pizza chain from the age of 17 and living in a low-income housing project in Everett, he was determined to improve his life. By the time he was 18, George realized he wanted to own a pizzeria, but it took him 12 years to do so. Nonni's Pizza worked for a dozen pizzeria in the area, from large chains to small independents, and George learned everything from each location. In 1995, he began working as a delivery driver at Revere's recently opened pizza parlor. By the spring of 1997, the restaurant had closed and been sold. George literally looked at the rolling coin and sold what he could buy.
