Nick's Cove is one of the only remaining historic settlements to serve early California tourism on the beautiful shores of Thomas Bay. Nick's Cove has historically been a warehouse for tourism, local fishermen, and agriculture. The property was originally part of a huge ranch until Henry W. Hallock, President of Lincoln's staff in 1850, bought the property and sold it to Jeremy Black, an Easterner. The place called Black Landing settled in Tomales Bay. During that time, it was home to various industries such as saddle making, duck farming and dairy farming. The North Pacific Coast Railway was built along the coastline in 1873, crossing the entire area from Sausalito to the Russian River, carrying passengers and cargo such as dairy products, fish and clams.
