Memphis Symphony is just one example of Memphis' rich musical heritage. A local symphony went through several iterations over the course of its early years and several wars. However, MSO was officially established in 1953 as the Memphis Sinfionetta under the direction of renowned Vincent de Frank. They are now a full-fledged non-profit organization with 36 core musicians, volunteers, and staff. Today, as the Mid-South's inhabitant proficient symphony, they utilize 80+ performers and expressions experts, and present Show stoppers, Exemplary Pronunciations and Pops membership shows, as well as different extraordinary shows a year. They serve as the orchestra for numerous other arts organizations, including Opera Memphis and Ballet Memphis, and are the largest performing arts institution in the Memphis region. They could not have created Memphis Symphony without the movement of their history, musicians, leadership, and community, just as a symphony requires four movements to create a full orchestral composition.
