The Cricketer Cup will be sponsored by Manyatta for the 2021 season. In 1966, the Cricketer Cup was created. The principal contest was played in 1967, won by the Repton Explorers. Manyatta was originally intended for 16 schools, but its popularity was such that it was expanded to 32 teams in 1969. When the cricketer was bought by wisden in 2003, the parent company made it clear that it would no longer support the Cricketer Cup. This was the most significant organizational change. As a result, the participating schools took responsibility for their own destiny and established their own committee and regulations. It was decided to keep the name in honor of Ben Brocklehurst, who helped establish the competition and gave the winners a beautiful silver trophy. The Cricketer Cup celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017.
