Hotel Teatro is located in a renovated landmark building in the heart of Denver, locally known as "LoDo", or the lower downtown area. In 1863, the Governor of Denver, Evans, built a brick house for his family on 14th and Arapahoe Streets in downtown Denver. The Evans family continued their quest to build Denver by donating 4 blocks of Arapahoe Street, where they established Hotel Teatro. In the 1880s, the seminary moved to the university campus and later developed into the University of Denver. In 1911, two architects hired by Evans-William E. and Arthur A. Fisher-set about designing an eight-story office building and an adjacent three-story garage. The design combines modern architecture with traditional Renaissance architecture, glazed red brick and white terracotta. The 42,000-square-foot building is decorated with marble and brass.
