John Hill, James Hill's father, acquires Tom Reid's Marpole secondary Dry Goods location. While James is pursuing his education, he works alongside his father at Reid's Dry Goods. By the time he is 23, James is in charge of the family business. James and Forbes, his brother, acquire Kerrisdale Dry Goods and relocate the company to its original Kerrisdale location, renaming it Hill's of Kerrisdale. Hill's of Kerrisdale is still an important part of the community and the retail scene in Vancouver today. Hill's Dry Goods opens its first store on Kitsilano's 4th Avenue in a restored historic building.
