Kai is an excellent teacher, as it turns out. He enjoys teaching. In fact, so many irritated students told him that after studying with him, they finally understood how flamenco works, which led to the creation of Flamenco Explained. Kai learned flamenco as it was done in the good ol days, by taking illustrations with extraordinary guitarists in New York and Spain and burning through hundreds (perhaps thousands?) of time spent at dance studios. He'd been playing flamenco for very nearly 10 years - 2 of them in Spain - when he chose to get some proper music schooling, so he got a grant to Berklee and figured out how to graduate in 2 years. He learned how to talk about music in a way that makes sense to many people at Berklee. Flamenco Explained began regularly performing as a soloist and accompanist while living in Boston, in addition to teaching and recording.
