Since being independently owned and established by Walter Carr in 1973 at 109 Main Street in Pioneer Square, Elliott Bay has changed locations, adding Seattle's first bookstore café and an event space for author readings. They remained there until 2010, when they moved to the Capitol Hill neighborhood, which is close to downtown Seattle. They brought their knowledgeable staff with them, along with Elliott Bay Book distinctive collection of books, original cedar shelves, and a welcoming atmosphere. Both the reading events and the café have continued to be essential components of Elliott Bay Book operation. They host a nearly daily author reading series that has been a staple of Elliott Bay life for more than 50 years.
