The story of Dogfish Head began in May 1995 when they opened Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats, the first brewpub in the first state, on Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. The plan is to bring raw beer, original food and original music to the area. Dogfish Head is not only the first brewpub, it is also the smallest commercial brewery in the United States. Their first products were brewed on a system of essentially three kegs, followed by propane burners, which are brewing 12 gallons of beer throughout the restaurant. It turns out that this is not just a full-time job. When brewpub opens for the first time, they brew three times a day, every Friday! Brewing on such a small system allows them to try a variety of different recipes.
