Americana Indian Shows had its start in 1947 when author Lee Anderson (a fifth era Arizonan) went to class on the Navajo reservation and worked after school and ends of the week for his uncle at the family's Sanders, Arizona exchanging post. The Andersons gathered American Indian workmanship, for example, Navajo floor coverings, ceramics, bins, gems and other Indian and western things. This developed an enthusiasm and regard for Native American craftsmanship and culture that roused Lee to seek after his fantasy about carrying Indian workmanship to people in general. In 1966 Lee and his siblings, Wayne and Arvid, started selling Navajo weavings from a more minor perspective at neighborhood swap meets and occasions in Tucson, while Lee was positioned at Fort Huachuca, Arizona.
