The purpose of the Acadian Village was to preserve some of the early Acadian heritage, to raise funds to help offset government cuts to the program, and to create jobs for customers. To recreate a typical village from the 1800s, the team had to transform the farmland into a shady community. Large-scale construction, home restoration work was done through local carpenters, merchants, civic organizations, etc. Even the regional army reservists stepped in by setting up general Acadian Village. Seven of the eleven buildings, real 19th-century houses, were donated by families whose ancestors lived there. All the houses show the passage of time and are examples of the ingenuity of early Acadian builders, complete with wooden pegs, mud walls, etc., and meticulously restored.
